EXTERNAL PROFESSIONAL COUNSELORS
This list of local professional counselors are individuals and agencies not affiliated with IHOPKC/FC and/or operate specifically apart from the community. These third parties will be able to provide unbiased care and treatment outside of the community, depending on your needs. Many of these resources are clinicians who use a faith-based, biblical perspective that can be integrated to the degree you may, or may not, want incorporated during treatment.

FINDING A THERAPIST
Here are some questions intended to help in your search for a therapist. Using the answers to questions like these help to inform your personal decision in this process. For some, having the same cultural, faith, and community background is important while not for others. Likewise, some may prefer online for various reasons, while another may prefer in person and location is not a barrier.
It is OK to be selective in this decision because it is a great investment in yourself, your family, and your future. You are the most important factor in this process.
Ask if they have experience with trauma
Ask if they use trauma-informed therapy techniques
Ask if they are licensed and/or what is their level of experience
Ask what they specialize in
Ask if they have specific credentials/training related to your concern (ie: trauma, substance, or sexual addiction certifications)
Ask what type of therapy they'd recommend for your situation and condition
Ask how they incorporate faith into their practice
Ask how they establish and work toward therapy goals (ie: collaborative, directive, non directive)
Ask if they are going to be able to fully support your goals
Keywords and Evidence-Based Techniques: trauma-informed, attachment-based, strengths-based, individual/couples/family therapy, religious trauma, grief, sexual abuse, CBT, DBT, EMDR, narrative therapy
